I’ve recently realized that when some folks rail against “whiteness,” what they really mean is modernism, which has nothing to do with race or skin color, but is a kind of mode of being which is hyper rational, Apollonian, linear, mechanical, and Artless.

Listen Chris there are entire periods within Italian epochs where there was a whole Apollonian phase *cough cough Rome* so let’s not get carried away here.

Yea. From the few crt summations of “whiteness” I’ve read, Irish Catholics do not fit the mold very well. They are talking about Protestants.

Living over here, I’d agree wholeheartedly. ‘On time’ is more... flexibly... defined. Lots of stuff gets miraculously figured out at the last minute.

Is that the reason Italians are immune to woke? I visit the country once a year and despite all its problems people still enjoy their culture. Germans and Americans on the other hand don't.

If you were born and raised in the USA, in what sense are you Italian?

It seems to me that ostentatiously hyphenated identities are one of the reasons Americans suffer from a sense of rootlessness. It would make more sense to call yourself a Californian American than an Italian American.
