It's worth remembering that the Declaration was written by royal subjects *against* the most powerful state in the world. They argued that if the state does not protect natural rights, the people have a "right to revolution." They fought to build a new state that protected them.
It sounds there isn’t much daylight between our positions. Building a new state to protect and uphold their values is in line with my position, as would be the alternation of their old state. 1
