Shot gun takes about 2 minutes to become proficient. Get yourself a nice rifle. Much more enjoyable, and it’s a fun skill to learn.

If you're hunting a moving target, a shot gun versus the steady positioning of a rifle is really different. I could take my time and hit bullseyes with a rifle all day but I'd probably waste a box of skeet with how bad a shot I am with a .410

Depends on the round and distance. If you’re using a shotgun for self defense, you’re likely to be 10 feet or less of your target. My training revolved around shooting humans (it is what it is), and shotguns are only useful for close-quarter combat.

Who trained you on using a shotgun for people? Seems like a handgun would make more sense for a big target. I'm using it to hunt small game.

A handgun for clearing a house is the opposite of useful. Very little stopping power. I’d rather have an M4. You ever seen a person get hit by a 9mm ball round? It doesn’t do much.

Nope. Glad about that, too.

Well, from experience... it’s not all that useful. Takes a lot more rounds than you’d expect, and when you’re that close, you want immediate stopping power. In a combat situation, a handgun is really only a “last resort.”

I've heard people use handguns just in case when sticking boar in the south. Never tried it but it sounds fun. I still imagine shooting at birds in the air with a shotgun takes a lot of practice.

Yeah, the handgun is used as a backup in that case, too. Basically a handgun is always the backup. It’s a secondary weapon. And yeah, shooting a small moving target isn’t easy. But, a shotgun for home defense is a relatively simple concept.

Yup, I want to train for home defense.
