Five years ago, the media launched a campaign to define conservatives as "racists and white supremacists." Five days ago, they changed the terms to "seditionists and domestic terrorists." The first is to dehumanize the opposition; the second is to justify their repression.

Chris, this really reads as disingenuous. Some of them are seditious and literally just beat a police officer to death. Come on now.

Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️ @realchrisrufoReplying to @sheemawn @KatyaSedgwickI don't think sedition or coup is accurate language. The QAnon Shaman wasn't trying to overthrow the government and install himself as the new potentate. I think political riot, even political violence, is more accurate and the instigators should be held accountable for it.5 replies 5 retweets 82 likes -

It was definitely an attempted coup. This is a semantics game. They made the same fundamental arguments as some members of blm and there is footage of folks explicitly talking about a revolution.

It's not an attempted coup. The QAnon Shaman and the smiling lectern guy were not attempting to *overthrow the US government.* Maybe there's an argument that the symbolism of the event resembles a kind of postmodern coup of the absurd. But actual hard coup, no.

I rarely disagree with you, but I will here. These are people who wanted to overturn a democratic election; and Trump wanted them to as well and has pressed for that for two months. That isn't changed because Trump is so delusional he thinks he actually won the election.

I'm open to this. I guess probably mixed motives, right? Like some people wanted it overturned. Maybe a postmodern coup??

Exactly, as I said before, "postmodern coup" or "coup of the absurd" could be accurate terms.

If going through the courts to overturn an election due to alleged fraud is a coup then did Gore attempt a coup? I'm talking about what Trump was doing. I'm not talking about the Qmorons at the Capitol building
