It was definitely an attempted coup. This is a semantics game. They made the same fundamental arguments as some members of blm and there is footage of folks explicitly talking about a revolution.
It's not an attempted coup. The QAnon Shaman and the smiling lectern guy were not attempting to *overthrow the US government.* Maybe there's an argument that the symbolism of the event resembles a kind of postmodern coup of the absurd. But actual hard coup, no.

Yeah man, they just wanted to partake in a casual hanging of the V.P. Just for fun. No real reason. Not the President arguing he is the "real," "legitimate" President in contravention of the will of the voters and telling them to go to the Capitol and fight and be strong.

If a lot of them were convinced they were helping to undo the election result (which I believe is the case, after listening to speeches & reading some Parler threads), it's akin to overthrowing the elected gov (not to take place themselves, but to have Trump take place).
