The means of public communication change with technology. Yesterday's soapbox is today's social media channel. When private companies have monopoly power, the public has a right to ensure equal access.
Under your theory, it would be okay for AT&T to cut your phone lines and Western Union to cancel your service because they don't like your political opinions. Monopoly means regulation.
