I’d quibble on the substance part. I think pronouns, like the French remaking everything for Year 0, is a sign of a growing totalitarian revolutionary spirit. Both believe(d) they could literally make the world anew. The French learned they couldn’t only after years of violence.
True! The pronouns are mostly signal, the French Revolution was, for better or worse, very substantial.
