"Egalitarianism" has a sterling reputation, but we have to see it for what it really is, which is an attempt to categorize the fundamental nature of a human being and then proposing that things should be equalized/flattened across that dimension. This is the entire "equity" game.
The founders understood that there must be a balance of equalities and inequalities. They optimized for *political equality,* accepting that it would lead to inequality across other dimensions. They correctly had a tragic, not utopian view of history.

Bingo! Their sole distinction for the basis of equality was an agreement to uphold the Constitution. This isn't what made one "human" but definitely what made one "American."

The founders were slave owning rapists. There was no meritocracy back then either.

I don't understand what optimizing for political equality means. The Founders devised a system of checks and balances, i.e. process, not outcomes. If the process produced equal or unequal outcomes, there were avenues to win, settle, compromise, or try again. Right?
