I love you both, but Dreher is right on this. The speeches are insane and not a sign of a confident political right.

Agree in principle. But one meta-narrative that’s true is that all elite institutions are arrayed against the middle class. The stuff Rod was reacting to is an expression of that frustration & sense of powerlessness. The marchers are prob good people but need better leaders.
Agree with you completely. The MAGA marchers, like the Tea Party a decade ago, have the right instincts and are ready to move conservative politics forward. But they need and deserve better leadership, which I think the is greatest challenge (and opportunity) in the future.

I think right now is a great opportunity for robust internal debate for conservatives. You, Peachy, Rod, Lomez, Douthat, and others *all* have valuable insights into the way forward. Constructive disagreement is healthy during this transition period.

I agree with most of Rod's criticisms but he's excessive in transcribing all the speeches just to hate on them. Cite the speeches for your arguments and move on.
