Agree with you completely. Trump forged the populist right from sheer personality, but did not build an infrastructure of intellectuals, wonks, politicos, and organizers. That's the work moving forward. Channel the populist morale into competent leadership.

What is or should be the source of the Right’s confidence? Serious question for both of you.

It should be: a coherent and powerful meta-narrative for the movement, an actionable plan for laying siege to the institutions, a well-organized and disciplined base of support, and a strong bench of competent leaders. This is all possible, but we don't have it now.
