I saw @default_friend talking about "gifted kids" and it just reminded me that going to a tiny private high school with a class of 7 and only 30 kids in the whole school has permanently handicapped my sense of what is normal, gifted, or smart
I went to a California public high school with 2,000 students, ranging from Stanford-bound sons of privilege to prison-bound sons of gangsters. BMWs in the parking lot; handguns in lockers. Quite a spread.
