But I agree with Chris completely on this, despite the risk of this overflowing to harm me if it is done in too ham-handed a manner. Academic freedom means that academics can say, write, advance anything they like. But it does not require the govt to fund it.

And, even when I agree with leftwing goals in principle or practice, those who do not have every right to tell their govt officials, "No, I do not want to fund activists working for things that oppose my values, beliefs, politics and morals." End.

Lee, you should read Neil Gross’ book on the politics of the academy. Among the fascinating findings: much of the leftward drift of academic politics is simply explainable by the rising number of women in the professoriate.
