Thanks! Went out to dinner with a friend who grew up in Soviet Czechoslovakia. She said the cultural indoctrination is worse here than it was during her childhood, because people actually believe it (whereas everyone knew it was BS in Soviet times).

I live in Seattle, my wife is from China. She was born in the last year of the Cultural Revolution. She tells me the exact same thing and she’s terrified that she’s somehow immigrated to the “land of the free” to find it may regress to the worst horrors of the place she left.
