Some combination of (i) massive testing catching a higher percentage of cases than before, (ii) the delay between infection and deaths, (iii) more knowledgeable decision-making in treatment, and (iv) improved hospital capacity, I imagine.

I feel like this has been answered every time cases go up. There is a 3-4 week lag between case rise and death. Yes, we are better at treating, but end of October and November will be bad.

Deaths were flat because for a couple of weeks, new infections remained in age group 30 and below. But now, the virus has begun to infiltrate older cohorts. At which point deaths begin to explode too, unfortunately.pic.twitter.com/d2quxZpVrq

Expect a lagging effect to take place. They will increase rise eventually with better treatment techniques & more experienced medical staff.
