Prediction: tech employees with families are going to move out of the prestige cities (SF, SEA, NYC) and engage in "lifestyle arbitrage": maintaining top-wage employment, while significantly reducing cost of living by moving to cheaper cities and states.
For years, woke mayors and city councils have assumed that tech companies would provide an endless stream of cash for their social justice projects. Now they're scrambling to figure out how to build utopia in an era of declining municipal budgets. Spoiler: it won't end well.
On a personal note: my family made this transition in January, moving to a small town an hour outside Seattle. We bought a bigger house, our kids can play outside, and my wife and I both work remote (Amazon, think tanks). Bonus: all our neighbors are conservatives.

The irony is that these woke mayors and city councils came about due to the very tech workers that are now fleeing. These people come in and vote woke. Then when things go to hell, they have the means to move, and few roots to keep them there.
These cities existed before tech came in. They’ll be just fine. Tech hubris is hilarious. “Without tech, total collapse!” And you listed NYC? Ever heard of the banking and investment industry? It dominates there. Stop spinning doom & gloom because of politics. It’s a bad look.
Not that I believe that Covid was unleashed by the Left but I do believe they’ve latched onto it and used it to punish enemies, like those on the right. This seems like poetic justice of unintended consequences to that. Perfect
Won't end well but they'll be expecting some sort of big bailout from a different administration, should that happen.
