Dan McAdams, in his book The Redemptive Self: Stories Americans Live By, has an interesting ch on the Civil Rights narrative of meaning. It depends on the existence of a great nemesis working against the the narrative of progress. I think most of CRT is contriving a new nemesis.

Absolutely. This is the flaw with modern progressivism in general: It pretends all progress has been accidental and that we still live in a racist and sexist society. We don't. And the progress the US has made is *because of* our great system, not in spite of it.
