My debut as a contributor to @theweek: Why you shouldn't vote for Trump if you want to stop the Woke Revolutionhttps://theweek.com/articles/939651/how-trump-radicalizing-left …

I share some of your hesitations about Trump, but like too many of the center-left, you propose no way to stop the onslaught of wokeness. (You cite the Harper's letter, which achieved no outcome except at least one of its authors later renouncing it under woke pressure.)

I think the Harper’s letter accomplished a lot. After it the woke have been forced to be more upfront about their actual positions. Beauchamp and Klein in particular have bitten bullets in a way the woke generally try to avoid.

It also generally drags the conflict out in to the open. The woke often try to deny that there is really any conflict and the squishes go along with it. This makes it harder to argue. A lot of big names asserting that there is a conflict and it’s important enough to address...

Conservatives and liberals need to stand against the worst excesses of this stuff, together if possible. But Trump is an outlier. Is he even a conservative? He would be unable to build a coalition and he doesn’t even seem to understand the issue.

Alas, he is the only Republican running for president. He is what we've got for at least four more years. It's a binary choice.

Harper's Letter, Oberlin ruling, Newsom's veto, Coinbase's anti-activsm stand. There are a few small victories.

I think it achieved a great deal as far as moving the needle back from "these opinions are beyond debate." Also, it's simply not true that I haven't proposed anything else. I've suggested before that "hostile environment" lawsuits could be a way to curb Seattle-type workshops.

Ultimately, though, culture wars are won by winning hearts and minds, and Trump is doing the exact opposite.

Trump can stop the trainings, draw attention to them, but his solution seems a throwback to cheerleading America rather than healing division, which Biden has voiced. CRT is not the only issue--health care, climate change, virus. Trump has failed on these.

Not to mention, while we all sit awaiting an agreeable political champion to fight wokeness, the further the inroads the activist scholars make into the classrooms and soft brains of younger and younger kids.
