I am now being attacked by James Lindsay and his followers because I said Latinos are integrating into WASP culture in their own way... because neither he nor they know how to read a Twitter thread. Today has been a weird day.https://twitter.com/ConceptualJames/status/1307842021458161664 …

Your basic point is right. My father immigrated from Italy at a time where he was poor, considered an "ethnic," and his Catholicism was not accepted by WASP culture. Now, a fairly short time later, he's considered a white dude. Same will happen for Latinos.

Probably not the really Indian Latins, but yeah, basically.

Can we just not let any immigrant in if our own American citizens/communities need help overcoming depressed wages, unemployment, etc? Let's also not bring in so many immigrants at once that we Balkanize instead of assimilating?

Italians are Europeans though, and there are far less Italians and there were far less Italians percentage-wise during the period of mass immigration of the 1800s-early 1900s than Hispanics now, who are about 18% of the population.

One difference then and now is that there were benefits to assimilation. Now we are incentivizing division, through policies that court identity voting blocks and reward victimhood.
