I read both in college. Thought Freud didn't hold up well; but found a lot of value in Jung. Sure, it's not not "scientific psychology" (it's more of a humanities enterprise), but are you two saying Jung's work is fundamentally flawed in some way? Genuine question!
Jung pilfers ideas from mythology and culture to decorate an underlying psychoanalytical conceit. Best thing to read is Rieff’s Triumph of the Therapeutic. He described Jung as a protege of Freud who repackaged Freud in a way that made it popular. Freud never forgave him.
Yeah, Christopher Lasch references Rieff quite a bit in his work; always been on my list, but will now move it up! It's been 15 years since I read Jung. Might look at it differently now.
