I used to live with my family a few blocks away. In the past five years, it turned into a hellscape and we decided to pull up stakes and move to the countryside. I've never looked back—but I can still feel the sadness and desperation of my friends and neighbors. Hard to shake.

Now that we're in a small town, everything has changed: no more encampments, needles, feces, and drug-addled transients having mental breakdowns in front of our house. The kids can go out and play for hours. We'e free.
