💥This is REAL and happening now. Seattle City Council moves to abolish the entire Seattle Police Dept. Yet, this is not even the most insane of these resolutions. 👇https://twitter.com/realchrisrufo/status/1289226549749673984 …

BREAKING: Seattle City Council moves to abolish the entire Seattle Police Department and replace it with a "civilian led Department of Community Safety & Violence Prevention." They want to replace the police force with nonprofit programs and "community-led activities." pic.twitter.com/JnFaWusvvv

No t exactly. The resolution - which is bad enough as written - doesn’t “abolish the entire” SPD. In fact, it clearly seeks only to “remove certain functions” from the SPD. And it says that in the first sentence. No need to exaggerate; like I said, it’s bad enough as-is.

In fact, neither document on @realchrisrufo's site says what he says they do - that SPD should be abolished. They both call for moving some responsibilities from the department to other areas.

False. They explicitly say that beginning in 2021, they want to replace the department (i.e., abolish it) with community-led programs. It's fairly clear on this and matches with the rhetoric of the groups leading this movement, such as Decriminalize Seattle.

If you'll give a citation on that, I'll revise. But I'm not seeing it. I see them wanting to remove some functions from the department. And, again, I'm not supporting the proposal. If we're going to oppose it, however, I want to make sure we're opposing what it actually says.

And Section 4.C. explicitly requires the SPD to maintain experienced officers on staff. Hard to see how (or why) they'd do that in a nonexistent department.
