Doubtful. Certainly not this way now with remote workers at Microsoft, Amazon, etc. They are desperate for talent, their margins are massive, and they're happy to pay good developers $250-500k. They can cut cost on office space, leases, etc.

Why would companies keep paying big city salaries if their people don't have that cost of living? If I recall correctly, Zuckerberg already said something along the lines of, "If you move we may adjust your salary long term."
