      A New Radical Centrism Retweeted

[THREAD] 1/ Equity-on-steroids in admissions is now officially underway. The UCSF medical school class of 2020 was 60% Asian. (And even that percentage probably reflected merit discrimination against Asians.) The Asian share for the 2024 class is 20%. https://twitter.com/chloe_cheng7/status/1278489590110642176 …

2/ Here's the most staggeringly offensive thing of all: These percentages do *not* reflect the demographic percentages in California. Blacks are 6% of California's population but 19% of the admitted.

3/ Think about it: The group that grossly underperforms all other groups all the way up from Kindergarten through college in California is rewarded for its dismal performance with admission slots three times the proportion of its population.

4/ Not only is UCSF not even pretending to comply with California's ban against affirmative action, they're also not even pretending to try to represent the state's actual demographic make-up. So, it's not even “equity” (which is unfair enough), but in-your-face favoritism.

5/ Will this finally wake Asians the f*** up? On balance, I'd say, probably not. There will be a few scraggly anti-affirmative action groups like the one just started in San Diego a few weeks ago, but these likely won't build enough public support to do much.

      Replying to @a_centrism

Washington State Asians recently launched and passed a statewide ballot intiative banning affirmative action. Their group was also "scraggly," but they organized like hell and won.
