I saw an overdose death in the Tenderloin tonight. The fire department came and tried to revive the man, but it was too late. They zipped him up in a yellow bodybag and hauled him away. It happened in a city-sanctioned tent encampment. People on the street barely noticed.
There's always the question of when you should stop filming, but I asked my camerman to keep rolling. I'll be including the footage in my upcoming documentary. Someone has to show the truth of life in the West Coast's homeless containment zones.
You are so right. Probably why people ignored the person overdosing in the street is that its a normal thing in this neighborhood.
The unfortunate thing is that the housed residents feel they are under siege in this neighborhood due to the city's negligence in allowing such behavior to go on. Something needs to be done. It is not fair nor right that we should let such lawlessness allow to go on.
So sad. But sometimes folks need a dramatic wake up call.
I don't know anything homelessness, but my guess is that it's very unpleasant in any region of the country whether it's in an area sanctioned by local government or not.

Me and my uncle came across someone who had been just shot in the head. Remember everything vividly and that happened a very long time ago.
