Great articulation of a cultural gap here in America. Is this a new thing though? Seems there’s always been a urban rural gap, is the current one bigger or novel in some way?

It's always been there, since the beginning. But I think mass media, high-tech communications, and the social dominance of the cities over the past decade has rendered the rural nearly invisible.

For me, it's about independence, liberty, and being left the hell alone. I've never had an issue extending that kindness to my Seattle neighbors; I can't say that I've experienced the same over minor political disagreements. I think that's why a lot of people want to leave.
