I used to get a slurry of hate mail after reporting on crime, encampments, violence, & drug addiction in SF. Now, nothing. I can't remember the last threat. In fact, it's the opposite. could the reign of unhinged "activists" actually be over? I believe so, and it's exciting.

Hopefully. Somehow providing sanctuary and compassion to the downtrodden has turned SF into a grifters paradise where they exploit drug addicts at the expense of those paying for it all.
This is true, but there is a financial limitation to this. When tax revenues decline sharply, the growth of the homeless-industrial complex meets a boundary. "More money" stops being a reasonable demand.

The best solution will be to massively crack down on hard core drug use/dealing instead of the current model of the city literally enabling it, both procedurally and financially. When you build a system that rewards drug addicts and dealers, they will come with certainty.

Decriminalization of drugs has always focused on marijuana and disproportionate sentences, racial injustices etc. But if you focus on the hard core drugs that ravage communities (heroin, fentanyl, meth), you should see immediate results.
