I'm genuinely surprised by the hostility to @oren_cass' project. He's saying "our economic policy should be oriented towards strong families and communities," and the old mainstream crowd responds "that's basically communism!"
It strikes me as emotional, not scientific.
More charitably, Chris, the problem is thinking that Bill and Jonah represent a monolithic view of the non-populist right--especially on economics, which isn't really the focus of either of them, but also on any other policy issue.
The reformocons are different from the supply-siders are different from the libertarians. Within each group, there is lots of diversity. The MO of the national conservatives is to see a binary world on the right and to paint caricatures of everyone who doesn't join them.
