I'll bite. In 2015, Bill Kristol's Weekly Standard and Jonah Goldberg's National Review were the standard-bearers of mainstream conservative thought. In 2020, the Weekly Standard has evaporated and Jonah Goldberg is writing a Substack like every dude in Brooklyn.

And sure, those publications aren't primarily about economics, but you have to admit that their worldview, especially their economic ideas, is not popular now, even among conservatives. I am not a Trumper, didn't vote for him in 2016, but the change seems fairly obvious.

I'm genuinely surprised by the hostility to
@oren_cass' project. He's saying "our economic policy should be oriented towards strong families and communities," and the old mainstream crowd responds "that's basically communism!" It strikes me as emotional, not scientific.
