My latest for City Journal: why the "just stick homeless people in hotels" idea is so flawed - and dangerous. Another Bad Idea in San Franciscohttps://www.city-journal.org/san-francisco-plan-to-shelter-homeless-in-luxury-hotels#.XoeDpSmdaPE.twitter …

Of course it isn't housing. I believe the cost of care in a full-time mental health facility is around $500k a year. Rehab for 3 months can be as high as $80k. The city takes on serious liability and can be sued for millions if they mess this up. This is *very* hard & $$.

Ask some of the supes how much money some of the players on the “hit list” cost the city. It’s many more millions per year than the cost of either. Between hospitals arrests. Etc. the costs are staggering for certain individuals.

@LondonBreed & company were way in over their heads when they thought putting up criminal drug addicts into hotels. Had they taken the problem in the city seriously and stopped enabling, they wouldn’t be in this situation. They have been putting SF residents in danger for years. -
On one sense, as more people do slowly get housed, more people outside the usual non profit scenario that kept all that hidden will see what's going on and say 'whoa many of these people need far more help than we thought'
