      Sadly, they tried that (called the needle exchange). Then someone determined it was difficult for addicts to do that, and it was just easier to hand out as many free needles as possible. They are trying to stop the spread of AIDS, but SF is almost completely clear of it...

      Could be that there’s adequate supply of services but they’re disfunctional?The city has high density solutions (NC/SROs). For SROs, there’s research that people reject them because they feel safer on the street. & how can an addict get clean when surrounded by users&dealers?

      The science says, yes. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31581024  Mortality from overdose is 19x higher if you are housed in SF SROs, than if you are not. High density housing for addicts is killing them, and probably the people around them. (Who knew? Everyone.) @MattHaneySF via: @auweia1

      @SF_DPH reports drug overdose mortality: https://www.sfdph.org/dph/files/opp/SFDPH_SROHIA_FinalDraftv5.pdf … 7% in SF 23% tenderloin SROs 32% SOMA SROs ... less than 5x, as compared to a 19x increase in overdose mortality in the peer reviewed research. Is SF fudging its numbers? @MattHaneySF
