The Evergreen State College is perhaps a bellwether: after their identity politics scandal, enrollment has plummeted and they've been forced to downsize. The Republican gubernatorial candidate @FreedForGov has called for it to be shut down and converted into a rehab facility.

40% is a lot, agreed. That said, the 97% figure actually cuts the other way. It means it’s a button the school can’t push to keep enrollment up. Another school could prevent an enrollment collapse by bumping up their acceptance rate, but at Evergreen that’s not an option.

Setting that aside, part of the argument was that the Fall 2017 enrollment drop couldn’t be attributed to the May 2017 controversy, because it happened after incoming freshmen had already made their decisions. But Evergreen is quirky, and so I don’t really know if they are
