Beards are always in style, just not the neckbeard
I think it might cut against ageism. The cool aging-hipster beard might make one appear younger than the khakis-and-a-clean-shave look.

In Seattle, you see a lot of the Ivy-educated, khakis-and-polo, clean-shaven men in their 50s working at places like Microsoft—and wondering when they're going to get the axe. Their anxieties are palpable.

If you're a SWE in your 50s at MSFT why the hell do you not have enough saved for that not to matter. Stock at ATH they def have equity. Why the anxiety? They will be fine.
