Christopher Rufo allegedly violated a campaign finance law by donating surplus campaign funds to his own foundation, which was not registered as a charity. His counterargument is, essentially, "Well, it COULD have been registered as a charity." https://www.thestranger.com/slog/2019/07/30/40909274/ethics-complaint-alleges-christopher-rufo-broke-law-when-he-donated-surplus-funds-to-his-own-foundation …
You might also have mentioned that I had personally donated the $10,000 to the campaign, which I then donated to the Documentary Foundation when the campaign was over.

The amount a candidate donates to their own campaign does not appear to be legally relevant. Campaign assets are not a personal savings account. So if he added it, it would be irrelevant to the story.
