Some 109,089 men and women are sleeping on the streets of major cities in California, Oregon, and Washington. The most pervasive cause of West Coast homelessness is opioids, writes @rufodox.http://cityjourn.al/2IgZU4t

Not to understate addiction problems, but the linked sources don't portray the same picture as described (RE: 80% of unsheltered folx have substance abuse issues) and call into question the claims from the rest of the article.

Not to say that the issues aren't linked. Even a cursory look at the source documents suggests that stable housing often has a large impact on the ability to handle substance abuse and mental health disorders.

So, @CityJournal and @rufodox how about some solutions and advocacy that point to low barrier housing and housing first solutions as a way of helping solve this crisis as pushing for long-term housing affordability and stability solutions that address root causes of homelessness?

      (1) The sources are accurately linked; (2) Because low-barrier housing and housing first are not the best solutions. You can read an alternative plan of action here: https://www.city-journal.org/seattle-homelessness ….

Is the source for the claim in your piece "In Seattle, prosecutors and law enforcement recently estimated that the majority of the region’s homeless population..." the passage in the linked document, "Some estimates suggest that the majority of the homeless population..." ?

You sources a snapshot estimate and a court file from 2005, when you could have very easily just pulled up numbers from this decade... Or even the last six months. That's some skeezy reportingpic.twitter.com/49eyZOrPHS
