.@rufodox says that the burden is on the people who are in charge and accuses @jessynfarrell1 of "tone policing." It is always interesting when people adopt social justice terms to rail against social justice.

Ooh I haven't heard this before - @jessynfarrell1 says she hasn't heard anything from the Port of Seattle, a community partner who has not been at the table.

She says that the Port of Seattle should play a role - they have taxing base and capacity. "The port interest is that they need to make that neighborhood work."

.@rufodox says that homelessness isn't a function of housing. Where to begin.

Fundamentally, homelessness *is* caused by a lack of housing that is affordable to people. That may be because of a supply issue driving up prices. It could be because amenities in cities like Seattle are such that owners can charge more for apartments.

Solutions vary - if you're a socialist, I imagine you want more public housing. If you're a capitalist, supply is the issue to solve. Setting that aside, you could solve homelessness tomorrow if you had enough of the right housing. And there is plenty of data to back that up.

He goes on to say that the majority of people exp homelessness in Seattle are addicted to opioids and 80 percent of people who are unsheltered have a substance abuse disorder. I'm not precisely sure where these numbers come from. 64 percent of chronically homeless people...
