2. I'm of two minds on this one, actually. On the one hand, Amazon continues to play HQ2-like games. On the other, good on Bellevue, a suburb that has really transformed and densified.

3. I never, ever, ever thought Amazon would move its crown jewels out of Seattle, tech development, world-wide ops & so., What they were looking for in Greater DC & eh hem Greater NY was something different.

4. They wanted the ability to attract different KINDS of talent that was proving hard to recruit to Seattle - political insiders (connected to DC) & high-level finance & HQ management types that are tied to NYC.

5. The move to Bellevue signals several things. One crown jewels are staying in Seattle area. Two, Amazon may be seeking more "pliable" suburban locations like NoVa & Bellevue over politically constrained larger cities & urban areas.

6. Three, they are signaling their "displeasure" with and to Seattle, which seems to me a mistake. From a brand & long-term perspective, better to buck up & work with your original hometown.

The problem is that Amazon does not currently have a good faith partner in the Seattle City Council. Bellevue is openly pro-jobs, pro-Amazon, and pro-business, which is why they are reportedly snapping up enough office space for 25,000 people—the size of the canceled NYC HQ2.
