Not perverse or surprising. Globalization has reduced inequality globally by lifting up the world's poorest, but median wages in Western countries have been flat for 40 years. People are doubting that free trade and global capitalism works *for them,* based on their experience.

We get much bigger picture & more info than anyone ever. It’s working, but people are less willing work to rise up and more likely to spend. I mean complaining about capitalism on an iPhone is funny. It’s not how much in $ but quality of life. Imagine one invented by Soviets

But the middle class has been shrinking , and the technological deflation brought digital technology for everyone, but most ofour expense go to housing and energy/mobility, and especially housing became less affordable. You can be homeless and have access to YouTube

Calm down. I'm not expressing my own opinion, just my observation from spending the past three years studying poor American cities. Globalization has been great for my city, Seattle, but the gains are not evenly distributed.
