RMS is a non-compromising idealist, and he's consistent. And his opinions repeatedly show the downside of that mindset: He tries to apply his ideals (which are generally Good and Proper, and are why he is glorified by Free Software folk) to subjects he knows nothing about.
To his credit, he occasionally changes his mind when presented with nuance (nuance such as "this hurts people, dummy"). To his discredit, he should have kept his mouth shut.
