1/ Bitcoin development suffers from the "free-rider problem".
A bunch of people got really upset with @naval for pointing this out recently. I think he's articulating a reasonable characterization of a problem we collectively face in accelerating future Bitcoin development.

The developers are both HODLers + writing code. In that sense, someone who merely HODLs is, by definition, doing less. Why is that so hard to see? (HODL + code) > HODL. It’s literally math.

This has been an interesting lesson in that, if our identity feels threatened, then we are literally incapable of acknowledging facts.

I'm not sure if you're referring to me in particular; my identity does not feel threatened by your view. I think there's a healthy debate to be had here and I hope I'll be able to reply in a little more depth to the points you raise here.

You’ve been civil, which I appreciate. In summary, I’m a HODLer too but was lamenting that there’s no decentralized way to incent developers to stay on the big chains rather than creating a new chain for every feature. I used an unfortunate term which triggered folks.
