Cryptographers: in an asymmetric key pair (PK, SK), PK denotes the Public Key, what does SK denote?

Reminder that it's almost impossible to use Bitcoin in a privacy-preserving manner. We've been making small improvements, and continuing this work is important. But for serious privacy we'll need more fundamental changes.

I'd be very sad to see Pieter start his own podcast... Imagine how much time away from coding that would take. :(

A paper on "stateless Schnorr multisig signing"? That's huge. Poelstra explains why the current method is problematic: My guess: a bulletproof (hash circuit?) showing the participants picked their nonce deterministically from their private key + message.

You end poverty by ending poverty, not by putting it on a fucking blockchain.

The Schnorr/Taproot proposal is now published as BIPs 340, 341, and 342; see Note that the assignment of BIP numbers is not any kind of stamp of approval; it just means the process was followed (which includes some amount of public discussion).

Axel Voss wants to make 'pseudonymization' equivalent to 'anonymization' by law. This is pure industry agenda and would totally undermine the GDPR.

Is there a verifiable encryption scheme for encrypting the discrete logarithm of a public elliptic curve point?

private key / password loss is a serious issue for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, there's a lot of work to be done on more user-friendly recovery workflows i've read enough sob stories in my mail that it pains me to see everyone making fun of Schiff

Cows make milk. They milk themselves. Other cows check the milk (for free). Cows - get this - PAY THE FARMER to take the milk away. Then the farmer (you won't believe this, honestly) sells the milk *back to the cows.*

JoinMarket now accepts donations without address reuse: This open source project is decentralized and available to everyone for free, but therefore does not have a funding model. Be part of the effort to improve Bitcoin privacy and fungibility!

Short Thread: staying with some friends and last night after everyone went to bed I could not figure out how to turn off the large ceiling light in their living room. There is a wall controller that seemed fairly straightforward.

Greg Maxwell's explanation on why he's not on Twitter goes pretty deep, and makes some good critical points about the pitfalls of (purposefully) limited communication space:

This is solid advice. If you want to learn about cryptography, you should not start with elliptic curves. If you want to learn about car design, you don't start with how wheels are made, do you?
