My strongest elitist opinions are probably (1) Americans are rubes for drinking "coffee" from diners and 7/11 and (2) Americans are fools for thinking Miller Lite/Coors/Budweiser are beverages that are good and deserve to be called beer.
Pendergast's "Uncommon Grounds" basically supports the idea that Americans just have a terrible sense for coffee. He gives an interesting history of how it got so bad.
