Temptation is a feature of the system. Exit looks better than remaining while you remain but feels worse when you actually exit. Thus, remaining is just an intertemporally consistent strategy.

If you somehow block disutility of absence, still: 1. Communal exit selects for wrong people. 2. Individual exit is bad if collapse actually happens. 3. Unless you devote 90% of mental/physical effort to hiding, you'll only win a role in a Vice vid and infinite legal nightmares.
