The notion of escape velocity arguably presupposes a point prior to which the whole thing is still vulnerable to terrestrial forces... R/acc takes this threat seriously and refuses to just handwave it away. It's not about harnessing /acc to bring back the Renaissance or Rome.

It won't be "equalism" that does any damage. While it is a 'boogey man" of the right, it is unlikely to do any real damage. Even in its malignant form it is first of all a development of capital itself, melting away the traditional hierarchies of European society.
It is much more likely that damage in the east will be caused by a self-preservation instinct caused by the collapse of their labor market due to automation. China has a billion folks it won't need when automation hits hard. Confucianism will strike to save itself.

This is what ideologies do. When the father fails the son, the son will feel no compunction in killing the father. The only question is whether a patchwork of highly technological city-states (see Shanghai) will be sufficiently developed to close off the tide of country folk.

So, the West is irrelevant / dead cos the East, but the East is irrelevant / dead cos bio-feedback loops caused by automatisation / surplus Confucianism, but there's no need to worry cos *nothing* can derail the Process and anyway the HRT is kicking in...

Ideally, that particular crisis won't need to wait for automation - anything that even kinda-punctually curtails employment will do the trick. IMO 'the Process' is better off in 'the East' with titanic Sino-hegemony going up in flames in the 20s - precisely just before it starts.
