I've always agree with my now deceased grandad that bitching about your leader without participating in the election is comical.

That's just handwaivng. Unless you dismantle that system non-participation is exactly what they want. The governed without influence.

It's not about pretensions to be legitimate. It's about. Controlling bodies. And that they do have.

Power must always be legitimated, whether that be through god, birth, or what have you. Democracy needs the people to believe in government.
