Have you seen a movie coming out of Hollywood? Have you picked up a continental philosophy journal?

You’re confusing it for the pop vulgarizations

There is no version of psychoanalysis that isn't a vulgarity.

I have read it. In fact I have read a good chunk of both Freud and Lacan, plus nearly all of Zizek. It is basically required reading for anyone working on continental philosophy in grad school.

how much do you feel you actually understood of lacan? when i tried to get into him some years ago, i felt it required such patience, slow-going, to comprehend that it wasnt worth the effort

I fell in and out of understanding. Lacan, like all psychoanalysts, is a witchdoctor who has to obscure so no one sees the bullshit. I actually started reading Zizek as an undergraduate (1997, I think) in an attempt to get my head around it. Liked Zizek much more.

Did a grad seminar on Lacan and that helped but like I said, in and out.
