On trade, Trump is once again waging a battle as fierce as it is lonely, for - once again - he's executing this fight against the forces that raped America's industrial heartland ruthlessly for decades with no help from either major party.

Indeed, Trump is clashing, head-on, against the bedrock of the Uniparty consensus that "free trade" can do no harm. Sky-high balance-of-payments deficits? No biggie. Move along, sheep. Nothing to see here. Trade deficits don't matter (they do).

The "free traders" tell us that "trade wars" must always be avoided. Like the plague. Or else. Or else what? It'll be the 1930s all over again! Smoot-Hawley. Google it.

Of course, what neither the chicken-littles at the US Chamber of Commerce, piously taking a knee at the alter of "free trade", nor their joined-at-the-hip "open trade" groupies at the Wall Street Journal will tell you is this: this "trade war" isn't Trump's.

The fuse on this "trade war" was lit long ago - but not by Trump. This war was launched from abroad.

Look up America's current balance of trade picture. It's a bomb damage assessment. Bombs dropped not in the Mideast, but on the Midwest. And not just any bombs. MOABs. Many. Stretching over decades.

The flailing corporate media is desperately attempting to frame this as some sort of looming "potential" "trade war" only Trump could spark. Any moment now. Look out!

Wrong. Nothing "potential" about it. It's already happening. It's being waged. Against us. Now. It's a war America is merely JOINING. The days of one-sided trade wars against America - rewarded with no retaliatory response - are over.
