AT&T already merged with Direct TV and they are laying off a bunch of people because of that, not because of the possible merger than hasn't happened yet.

No they didn't merge they partnered with direct and dish just depends on what part of the country you are in. I know this first hand.they thought u-verse was going to be it.It's not all fiber optics, part of the connections was still on old phone lines, so the speeds are limited.
