The American people are fed up with the epidemic of gun violence and mass shootings in our country. Compared to other industrialized nations, we have one of the highest per capita shooting deaths because we refuse to address the source of the problem—our easy access to guns.

I’ve performed surgery on victims shot by a gun. When you have to remove parts of their intestines, take out a damaged kidney, and spend hours in the operating room doing everything you can to save a life, you truly understand the scourge of gun violence on a visceral level.
