The Amorite wall, built by the Sumerians between the Tigris & Euphrates in the 21st century BC succeeded in keeping out invaders for only a few years before the invaders either penetrated the wall or went around it. Either way the Sumerian city of Ur was destroyed in 2000 B.C.
