Lmao! "Hey, you know what would be great? American wine." - said no one from France ever.

Exactly.. there's so many local wines to choose from in France. Raising tarrifs on American wine would be laughable.

I am not sure you understand what makes a great wine... Having traveled mumtiple times to Napa valley, even without taxes, Napa wines in general would have no chance in France. That said... they are also outrageously expensive even in the valley itself.
-
I prefer lodi and Livermore wines personally, but tbh wine is more of a local business anyway. People tend to buy more local wine regularly because its cheaper to buy local. Why would France import more wine when its cheaper to just buy what's made there...

This is pure nonsense. European wines are priced cheaper in the U.S. retail than California, Oregon, Washington wines. U.S. wines are priced in line with domestic U.S. prices in Europe.
-
Youre making his point. Domestic wines SHOULD be cheaper b/c lower shipping costs. French wines are cheap here b/c our tariffs are low. French tariffs are higher, American wine makers have to reduce profit margins in France to remain competitive, but the inverse is not true.

The American wines are so good. If the french people would taste Chardonnay from California they would never drink that wather down sitrus drink they call chardonnay ever again
-
Went many times to the U.S., in addition to being expensive, the California Chardonnay is barely pleasant to drink

Why would anyone want to drink American wine in France?
-
Because Boone's Farm wine is the best and maybe the only American thing Walmart carries. Especially good if you are having Big Macs in France
